Welcome to Iganga-Mayuge HDSS

In 2004, Makerere University, in collaboration with Karolinska Institutet in Sweden, set up the Iganga-Mayuge Health & Demographic Surveillance Site (IMHDSS) in two eastern Uganda districts of Iganga and Mayuge. Seed funding to start the site was provided by the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA). SIDA has continued to provide funding to support the site routine activities.

Our Objective

Iganga-Mayuge Health and Demographic surveillance (HDSS) site is set apart to eradicate poverty in Uganda after ensuring that people are leaving healthy.

Location and the population

Iganga-Mayuge Health & Demographic Surveillance Site (IMHDSS) is located astride the two eastern Uganda districts of Iganga and Mayuge. The site is about 120 kilometres or 2.5 hours drive east of Kampala, the capital city of Uganda, along the Uganda-Kenya highway (link to location sub-page).
